Introduction

The content of the large sized drawings of Hanneke Francken is about the experience of the cycle of life. A story which appears to be familiar but simultaneously raises many questions. A story about mythology, nature, evolution, eternity and transience. Without just one answer, but where the human fascination for remains.

The context or location of the images in the drawings are immaterial. Elements from different places and times are swept together within a framework that shows multiple perspectives. Francken sets her images together using homemade nature photos. Their origin does not matter then, because the artist combines them into a neutral image, which new meanings can be derived. In this way Francken literally brings different views together, she transforms chosen elements from earlier times to the present. It enables her both past and future, by pencil and paper, in her own favor.
